Visual:  through stones during courtship and display behavior

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:
  • most intelligent of the New World monkeys

  • live to 15-25 years in the wild / 46 years in captivity

  • practise urine washing - they urinate in their hands, then rub it all over bodies to attract females

  • can jump up to 9 feet

  • tool use - stones used as 'hammer and anvil' to break open nuts

  • dry forest

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
  • body, arms, legs, tail

  • either black or brown

  • chest and throat are white

  • head black cap

  • body length 12-22 inches

  • tail can be as long as their body

  • weight two to three pounds

  • brain mass 35 to 40 grams

 

DIET:  Omnivore
  • Fruits

  • nuts

  • seeds

  • buds

  • insects

  • spiders

  • bird eggs

  • small vertebrate
