GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: 
  • Brazil

 

HABITAT:  Tropical Rainforest

 

 
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
  • long silky golden fur

  • 35 cm (13 inch) tail

  • bare face, hands, and feet

  • strong legs

  • sharp claw-like nails, called tegulae

 

DIET:  Omnivore
  • fruits

  • flowers

  • frogs

  • lizards

  • snails

  • birds

  • eggs

  • insects

  • plant exudates

 

LOCOMOTION TYPE:

  • arboreal quadrupeds

  • climbs down tree trunks

 

SOCIAL GROUP ORGANIZATION:  

  • average group size is 5 individuals

  • each group includes 1 breeding pair

PARENTAL CARE:  Cooperative Rearing
  • all members of group help carry, care for, and provide solid food for infants

 

COMMUNICATION:
  • Visual:  facial expressions

  • Chemical:  scent markings

  • Vocal:  high-pitched yells

 

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:
  • commonly gives birth to twins

 

ENDANGERMENT STATUS:  Endangered
